For this month’s Campground of the Month, we’re heading to Flinders Ranges with Tommy owner Colin, who recently stayed at Mt Little Station and shared some of his experience with the Tommy community.
From beautiful views and enjoyable 4WD tracks to friendly farm animals and spotless facilities. Mt Little Station became one of those places that leaves a lasting impression.
About Mt Little Station
Located just 15 minutes from Hawker in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, Mt Little Station is a working sheep and cattle station offering visitors a chance to experience the rugged beauty of the outback while enjoying comfortable camping facilities.

For this month’s campground of the month, Tommy owner Colin shares why Mt Little Station became one of his favourite stops in the Flinders Ranges.
Why Mt Little Station Stood Out
According to Colin, timing played a big part in making their visit so memorable.
“The owner told us it was the wettest and greenest they’d seen it in eight years,” Colin said.
The recent rain had transformed the landscape,creating spectacular scenery throughout the station and making the Flinders Ranges even more impressive.
“Some of the tracks were a little challenging, but very enjoyable 4WD’ing.”
Why it’s perfect for Tommy Owners
One of the things Colin appreciated most was how versatile the campground is. Whether you’re travelling with a Tommy Campers S4X, S6X, or S8X, Mt Little Station offers campsites suited to a wide range of setups. Even larger touring groups and caravans are most welcome.
The property offers plenty of space, stunning views and easy access to amenities without feeling crowded.
Colin also highlighted how well maintained everything was throughout the station.
“The amenities were very clean and well-maintained.”
The camp kitchen and showers were only a short drive from their campsite, and, once again, cleanliness stood out.
“They were very clean, well-appointed and regularly serviced.”
Their campsite
Colin and his wife stayed on site 12, which quickly became a favourite.
“We were on Site 12 with a fire pit and just a short walk to Site 12 toilet.”
Firewood is available to purchase at the station entrance, making it easy to settle in for an evening around the campfire.
But perhaps the best part?
“There were amazing views of the Flinders Ranges in all directions from our campsite.”
Things to do around Mt little station
There is plenty to keep visitors busy during their stay.
Colin recommends:
- Walking to Mayo Gorge
- Driving to Sunset Lookout
- Tackling the track up Mt Little
- Exploring the surrounding Flinders Ranges region
Families with children will especially love the station atmosphere.
“There are opportunities to feed farm animals and meet the friendly donkeys and farm dogs. You might even get up close to an orphaned joey.”
Another unexpected find during their stay was what Colin described as:
“Two baths with a view.”
Although they weren’t sure whether bookings were required, hot water was available and the setting certainly looked inviting.
Don’t miss Pizza night
If you’re planning your visit, Colin recommends timing your stay around one of Mt Little Station’s popular pizza nights.
Held on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, the station’s tavern area comes alive with a huge woodfired pizza oven and a welcoming atmosphere.
“Unfortunately, we missed pizza night, but drove up to the tavern area, and it looked very inviting with the layout, lighting and huge pizza oven.”
How long should you stay?
Colin’s recommendation is simple:
“I’d recommend a minimum three-day stay, or perhaps use Mt Little Station as your base to explore more of the Flinders Ranges.”
