FAQ’s

What Slide-On Camper do I need?

Typically, the build starts with ute configuration (Dual Cab, Extra Cab or Single Cab). The configuration determines the tray length (1850mm, 2100mm, or 2400mm), which in turn determines the camper type (S4X, S6X, or S8X).

Can I put a slide-on camper on a tub?

All Tommy Campers are built for trays, so the tub on your ute needs to be replaced with a tray.

Where can I see the Tommy campers?

Our headquarters are located in Ballarat, VIC, and are open during business hours. We also have showrooms in Coolum, QLD, and Perth, WA, which are by appointment only.

What if I’m not in VIC, QLD or WA?

We attend shows in each state every year. Visit our contact page to find a list of upcoming events. Additionally, you can join the Tommy Campers Owners Group on Facebook, a community for Tommy Campers owners. We have over a thousand campers on the road across Australia, so you can post your location, and another customer may be nearby and willing to stop by.

Do you ship Tommy Campers overseas?

Currently, we don’t have any overseas dealers. That said, we have sent Tommy Campers out to 6 of the 7 continents (no one has taken a Tommy to Antarctica yet…). We build it here in Australia, load it into a 20ft container, and send it to your nearest port. From there, you install the camper on your ute and hit the road! As a side note, two Tommy Campers fit in a 20ft container, so consider buying one with a friend and splitting the shipping cost!

Are Tommy campers suitable for families with kids?

They sure are! We have families of five travelling around with their three kids in the Tommy. Depending on the kids’ age and size, there are a few options, but one of the best is our fold-out kids’ bed that extends from the driver’s side door. Contact us for more information, and we’ll be happy to walk you through it.

Can I fit out my own Tommy Camper?

Depending on your budget, practical skills, and spare time availability, you may wish to build your own camper—and that’s totally fine! As you can see on our price lists, our campers start with a bare shell, and you can add whatever options you’d like from us from there. Anything you’d like to do yourself, leave it off the list, and then use our camper as a canvas to paint your own masterpiece!

What’s the Weight of a Tommy Camper?

Starting from 316kg, combined with a 3 mm-thick aluminium body. Yes, that is a lightweight aluminium slide-on camper!

Do I need a GVM upgrade for my Tommy Camper?

Our S4X model (empty shell) starts from 316kg. From then on, you can fully customise your Tommy Camper; the final result depends on your choices. Fridge size, one or two water tanks, batteries, etc
