If you love salty air, proper 4WD adventures and the kind of beach camping that makes you forget what day it is, then Teewah Beach needs to be on your must-visit list this year. We’re not exaggerating when we say this is one of those places that reminds you why you bought your Tommy Camper in the first place.
Teewah Beach stretches along the eastern edge of the Cooloola Recreation Area in Queensland and offers more than 14 kilometres of absolute oceanfront camping. It’s raw, exposed, and absolutely brilliant.
For us here at Tommy Campers, Teewah Beach ticks all the boxes: beach driving, proper off-grid camping, and those epic ocean views straight through the 360-degree mesh of a Tommy Camper. You fall asleep to the sound of waves and wake up with the sun rising over the Pacific. It’s simple, but it’s hard to beat.
Where is Teewah Beach?

Teewah Beach sits between Noosa North Shore and Rainbow Beach within the Great Sandy National Park. It’s one of Queensland’s most loved coastal camping stretches, especially for locals who want a quick but proper escape.
There are two main access points:
- Via the Noosa North Shore Ferry, then driving north along the sand.
- Via the Freshwater track from Rainbow Beach, entering from the north and driving south.
Whichever way you come in, you’ll need a high-clearance 4WD and a valid Queensland Parks vehicle access permit.
Why It’s perfect for Tommy Campers
This is beach camping at its raw, unfiltered best. There are no powered sites, no camp kitchens and no hot showers waiting for you. And that’s exactly why it works so well for self-contained setups like the Tommy Camper S4X, S6X and S8X.
Here’s why it suits us perfectly:
Absolute Beachfront Camping
At Teewah Beach, you camp directly on the beach, just metres away from the ocean. With the 360-degree mesh, you get constant airflow and uninterrupted views of the water and dunes. You can be lying in bed with your morning coffee, watching the sun rise over the ocean.
Proper Off-grid freedom
There are no toilets, showers, or fresh water available along the Teewah Beach camping zones. Facilities are available at Freshwater Campground further north, but not on the beach itself. This means you need to come prepared. For Tommy Camper owners, that’s not a downside, that’s the whole point.
Portable toilets are mandatory
A portable toilet isn’t optional at Teewah Beach, it’s required. Rangers do check. This keeps the area clean and protects the fragile dune environment. Being fully self-contained means you can camp here responsibly and comfortably.
Space to set up properly
Teewah Beach is divided into seven camping zones along the shoreline. Some areas have grassy sections, others are more open, sandy, or in the dunes. You can choose a quieter zone or something closer to the main access points. Either way, there’s plenty of space to set up without feeling crowded.

Teewah Beach Camping Zones
One of the things we like most about Teewah Beach is that you’re not locked into tiny. marked bays. The beach is divided into seven designated camping zones, running from Zone 7 near Noosa North Shore down to Zone 1 close to Double Island Point.
Each zone has its own feel:
- The southern zones are often easier to access from Noosa
- Some zones (like zone 7) offer grassy patches
- Others are more exposed sand, which feels more remote
- The northern end puts you closer to the Freshwater track, Double Island Point and the lagoon
Because it runs for such a long stretch, you can usually find a spot that suits your setup and mood. If you want a quieter experience, head further along. If you’re camping with friends, there’s space to spread out.
Just remember that tides affect access. At high tide, sections of Teewah Beach can become impassible. Timing your drive is important.

What makes This place so special
There are plenty of beach campgrounds in Australia, but Teewah Beach has something unique about it.
First, the driving itself is part of the experience. Cruising along the hard sand with the ocean on one side, colourful cliffs and dunes on the other never gets old. Every time we drive onto the beach, it feels like the start of a proper getaway.
Then there are the sunrises. Because you’re facing east, the sky lights up directly over the water. Here, you don’t need to walk to a lookout or climb a headland. You can watch the sunrise from your bed.
Fishing is another big one. Many people come to Teewah Beach specifically to fish for tailor, whiting and dart, depending on the season. Or catch some pipis just metres away from camp.
If you’re camping between June and November, keep an eye on the horizon. Whale season along this stretch of Queensland coastline can be incredible. Spotting humpbacks from your camp at Teewah Beach is the kind of thing you won’t forget.
And if you like exploring, a short drive north takes you to Double Island Point. On the right day, the lagoon there is perfect for SUPping, swimming or surfing.

Beach Driving
Beach driving isn’t difficult if you’re prepared.
- Lower your tyre pressure before you hit the sand
- Avoid driving at high tide
- Watch for washouts after heavy rain
- Carry recovery gear
During summer, sections of Teewah Beach, Freshwater Track and Leisha Track that connect Teewah Beach to Double Island Point can get quite soft. Momentum and tyre pressure make all the difference.
Tips for your Teewah Beach Trip
If you’re planning your first trip to Teewah Beach, here’s what we’d tell you:
Book early
Camping permits and vehicle access permits are required. Teewah Beach fills up quickly during school holidays and long weekends.
Check the tide times
This is crucial. Plan your arrival and departure around low tide. Some sections at Teewah Beach are impassible on high tide.
Bring plenty of water
There’s no fresh water available along the beach camping zones at Teewah Beach.
Be self-sufficient
No bins, no facilities, no shops. Bring everything you need and take everything with you.
Pack recovery gear
Even experienced drivers can get caught out in soft sand on Teewah Beach. A shovel, maxtrax and a tyre deflator are worth having.
Camping at Teewah Beach
What we love most about this place is its simplicity. Just you, your setup and the ocean.
For Tommy Camper owners, Teewah Beach feels like the kind of place these campers were designed for. Lightweight, off-road capable, fully self-contained, and built to handle sand. It’s exactly the environment where they shine.
You wake up with salt in the air, spend the day driving, fishing or exploring. Cook dinner as the sky turns orange, and fall asleep to waves rolling in a few metres away.
If you haven’t experienced Teewah Beach yet, add it to your list. And if you have, you already know why it earns its spot as Campground of the Month.
