Every Tommy Camper has a story, and so do the people behind the builds. This month, we’re introducing one of our talented apprentices on the Tommy Campers team: Erin! First-year Apprentice Fabricator.

Meet Erin! First Year Apprentice Fabricator
Erin’s role at Tommy Campers sits firmly in fabrication. Most days are spent TIG welding aluminium and stainless steel components. The parts that form the backbone of each Tommy Camper.
“Most of my day is spent TIG welding aluminium and stainless steel parts that you can find throughout the campers. The variety of work keeps me on my toes, which is great.“
That variety is a big part of what Erin enjoys about the job. No two days are the same, and no two builds are identical. One day it might be fine detail welding, the next it’s larger structural components. All of it contributing to campers that are strong, reliable, and built to last.
From Swag to Slide-On
While Erin has always enjoyed camping, it’s been a much simpler setup.
“I’ve always enjoyed camping, but it’s usually with a swag on the ground. A Tommy Camper would no doubt change the game for the better.“
Working at Tommy Campers has given Erin a new appreciation for how much comfort, convenience, and flexibility a well-thought-out setup can add, without taking away the spirit of adventure.
Tommy Campers most underrated Features
When we asked Erin about an underrated feature every Tommy owner should consider, she didn’t hesitate.
“The new 600mm LED strip light on the back door.”
It’s one of the details that makes a big difference once you’re actually out using your camper.
“The rear step light is great as a flood light, but it can be a bit blinding at night. The new strip light at the top of the door frame is perfect for getting in and out of the camper. Especially with the orange light option when the bugs are bad.”
It’s a classic example of thoughtful design. Practical, subtle, and built around how people really use their campers.

Tips for Tommy Owners
Erin’s advice for first-time Tommy owners is refreshingly honest and grounded:
“Do a couple of overnight trips first. It normally takes a few goes to get the packing and storage right.”
Rather than overthinking everything before the first trip, Erin encourages owners to learn as they go. Adjusting, refining, and improving with each outing.
And when it comes to setup perfection?
“Don’t get too pedantic. It’s okay to have the odd thing or two that doesn’t have a perfect storage solution. After all, you’re going on a camping adventure, don’t lose sight of that.”
Built by people who get it!
What stands out most about Erin’s story is the balance between craftsmanship and perspective. She understands the technical side; the welding, the materials, the precision. But also keeps sight of why these campers exist in the first place: to get out there and explore.
Every weld Erin lays down becomes part of someone’s adventure. It might be holding the camper together on corrugated roads, supporting a quiet night at the beach, or lighting the way back into the camper after dark.
And that’s what makes the Tommy Campers team special. They’re not just building campers. They’re building the details that make life on the road just that little bit better.
