Meet Wim & Sam!
This month, we’re kicking off our very first edition of Tommy Tracks & Tales by featuring Wim and Sam from Bush and Bay. Full-time travellers, content creators and also the new faces behind Tommy Campers’ marketing team. With a few years of experience in travelling Australia when towing a camper trailer, they’ve now built the ultimate home on wheels for full-time life on the road.
Let’s dive into their journey, setup, and tips for living the good life on the road.

Tommy Campers 969
Wim and Sam are the duo behind Bush and Bay. An adventurous couple who swapped a traditional lifestyle in Europe for full-time travel across Australia. After years of short road trips, they made the leap to living on the road full-time, exploring this beautiful country in their dream setup: a Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series Dual Cab paired with a Tommy Camper S6X.
Their setup:
- Tommy Camper S6X model
- Custom-Built Tray
- Dual Cab LandCruiser 79 series in Sandy Taupe
- 2.8L Automatic Transmission, 4-cylinder engine
Why did you choose a Tommy Camper?
After travelling with a Patriot Camper for over three years, they’d learned the ups and downs of towing. Wim was convinced… For full-time travel, towing wasn’t the answer.
We wanted something strong, comfortable, and quick to set up. With a few luxuries for full-time life on the road. Tommy had it all, a rough looking design, plenty of storage, a queen bed, and an indoor toilet. Game changer!
Wim & Sam – Bush and Bay
When they visited the showroom in Coolum, QLD, they were blown away by the build quality. The 3 mm aluminium body, pop-up roof, and spacious kitchen ticked all the boxes.
What’s Your Favourite Feature?
The inside space is the winner here. Having a comfortable space to hide from weather and all elements of nature. It’s one of those luxuries that make full-time travel so much more comfortable. Closely behind is the indoor toilet, especially when camping in some remote places in the Northern Territory, and the ease of setup. Being able to pull up, pop the roof and have everything ready in just a few minutes.
Their Tommy aka “the Taj Mahal”
Wim and Sam had a long wishlist when they first visited the showroom. We noticed they’ve been thinking about their ideal setup for a while. And it doesn’t go unnoticed, their set up really stands out. Fellow travellers have named their Tommy even the Taj Mahal.
Electrical
200 Ah lithium battery, 400W roof solar, 2000 watt inverter, 40A AC-DC charger, monitored via phone app, plus optional extra solar blanket.
Hot Water System
Duoetto MK2 electric 10L unit, heats while driving so no battery drain. Plumbed for shower tent use.
Kitchen
L-shaped slide-out kitchen, 65L upright fridge with drawer underneath that includes a chopping board, storage for kitchen utensils, and is also known as their afternoon aperitivo bar. Four modular shelves, Travel Buddy Oven, and TC storage boxes to store oils, herbs and dressings upright.

Awning
The Bush Company 270 XT Max awning (12 m²), quick set up in under 60 seconds. Matching with their shower tent.
Suspension
2 inch lift with manual adjustable XGS Remote shocks from TJM.
Tyres
Method Race Wheels and 33s Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain tyres.
Weight
Fully loaded around 4 tonne.
Where They’ve Travelled?
They started their “Big Lap” of Australia three months ago, and so far they’ve explored some parts of Queensland, South Australia and WA.
Tips for new tommy owners
Our best advice would be to match the camper to your vehicle. We customised colours to match our 79 series, so it feels like one unit. Make sure your tray is built for the Tommy, and if you don’t need a headboard, leave it out. That’ll move the Tommy another 200 mm forward.

It was great to meet Wim & Sam at Karinji & Exmouth. We have an older S4 tommy on a Ranger duel cab that has served us well.
