Meet Shaina & Stewart

This month, we’re catching up with Stewart and Shaina. A couple on a mission to take the slowest lap of Australia. And they’re doing it in style with their dream setup: a LandCruiser 79 series Single Cab, their Tommy Camper S6X, and their boat.

Stewart and Shaina are chasing remote beaches, epic fishing spots, and those off-grid tracks that many would avoid. For them, life on the road is all about adventure and enjoying every moment.

Why did you choose a Tommy Camper?

For Stewart, the decision came down to one thing: versatility.

“I was looking for something that could handle the worst weather, give us comfort after a big day, and still let us tow a big boat. That, the go-anywhere capability and easy set-up, it was a no-brainer.”

After seeing another Tommy Camper owner living out of his setup permanently, Stewart was sold.

What’s your Favourite feature?

The living space inside the Tommy is what sold Stewart from the start.

“It has so much more space than you think. Once you get your placement right, you can use every millimetre. That’s the key.”

  • 2 x 100Ah Hardkore lithium batteries
  • 1000W Hardkore inverter
  • Redarc BCDC & separate solar charger

  • 65L ARB fridge on a slide under the bed (aka Stewart’s beer fridge)
  • Bushman 65L upright fridge in the kitchen for food
  • Velcro bags for organised storage

Water & Comfort

  • 150L water tank upgrade (started with 75L)
  • Diesel heater for cold nights
  • Cold shower system for off-grid living

Suspension & Tyres

  • ARB BP-51s on 800 constant load springs
  • 2-inch lift
  • 34-inch tyres (Mickey Thompson Boss ATs)
  • GVM upgrade to 3,950kg
  • Tyre pressure: 50psi rear, 49psi front

And yes, this 79 weighs around 4 tonnes when fully loaded. It’s built tough for big adventures.

Their advice for Life on the road

Stewart and Shaina don’t do strict itineraries. Why?

Don’t plan everything. Some of the best days are the ones you don’t plan. If it looks good, go for it. If you don’t have a go, you’ll never know.

When it comes to tracks, they say the toughest ones give you the best memories!

We’ve been bogged on beaches that turned out to be the best days ever!

Tips for New Tommy Owners?

Make the most of the space. Plan your setup properly from day one, and the Tommy will surprise you with how much room you really have.

Would you change anything?

Not much, Stewart would tweak the power to the newer style, and update the colours of the gullwing doors. Apart from that?

Loved it since the day I picked it up!
