One of the most common questions we get asked at Tommy Campers is:
Which Tommy Campers kitchen should I choose?
The answer is actually pretty simple.
It depends on how you camp.
Some travellers spend their evenings cooking over a fire with a cold one in hand. Others travel with coffee machines, air fryers, and enough food to disappear into the Kimberley for a month.
Neither approach is right nor wrong. They’re just different.
That’s why we created this guide: to help you find out which Tommy Campers kitchen suits you best. Let’s dive in.
Tommy Campers Kitchen Layouts
We offer three Tommy Campers kitchen layouts for three different kinds of travellers:
- Regular Kitchen
- Noosa Kitchen
- Hybrid Kitchen
All three share the same Tommy Campers DNA. They include our modular shelving system, drop-down bench, and slide-out sink. The difference isn’t what they can do. The difference is how you like to travel.
Before choosing a Tommy Campers kitchen, ask yourself a few simple questions.
Do You Love Traditional Camping?
When you picture the perfect campsite, what do you see?
A campfire? A barbecue? A frying pan sizzling outside while the sun sets?
➜ If that’s your style, you’re already thinking like a Regular Kitchen owner.
The Regular Kitchen
The Regular Kitchen keeps everything simple, practical, and focused on outdoor living. The regular Kitchen features a 300mm shelf depth, creating a compact and efficient layout that keeps everything within easy reach while maximising storage. It’s designed around outdoor cooking. All of your food, cooking gear, and storage are accessed from outside the camper, encouraging you to spend more time outdoors and less time inside.
But simple doesn’t mean basic.
Many customers choose to add a Travel Buddy Oven, which fits neatly between the shelves and provides a convenient way to heat meals, cook simple dishes, or keep food warm while you’re exploring.
For many travellers, that’s exactly the right balance between traditional camping and modern convenience.
Do You Travel With Appliances?
Let’s be honest. Some travellers don’t leave home without their coffee machine. Others pack a microwave.
And some people consider an air fryer just as important as their recovery gear.
If that’s you, both the Noosa and Hybrid Kitchen can work.
Many Hybrid Kitchen owners choose to remove one of the shelves, creating additional space for appliances while still retaining the benefits of internal storage access and outdoor cooking.
If your appliances are something you use occasionally, this can be a great compromise.
➜ But if appliances form a bigger part of your day-to-day touring lifestyle, that’s where the Noosa Kitchen starts to shine.
The Noosa Kitchen
The Noosa Kitchen features a deeper 465mm layout and a dedicated bench with a fold-down access slot, allowing appliances to be accessed and used from both inside and outside the camper.
Unlike the Hybrid, which focuses on internal access to storage, the Noosa is designed specifically around appliance use and internal workspace. The inside kitchen bench sits 590 mm off the floor, providing a comfortable working height.
Perfect for longer trips, unpredictable weather, and travellers who like bringing a few more comforts from home.
Want The Best Of Both Worlds?
Now let’s ask a different question.
Do you enjoy cooking outside?
Would you like easy access to your food, pantry items, and everyday essentials without stepping into the rain?
Would you like the option of adding a second seat inside the camper?
➜ If you’re nodding your head right now, the Hybrid Kitchen is probably where your search ends.
The Hybrid Kitchen
The Hybrid combines everything people love about outdoor camp cooking with the convenience of internal access to key storage areas. Like the Noosa Kitchen, the Hybrid features deeper 465mm shelves, creating additional storage.
The internal kitchen bench sits 690 mm off the floor, making it 100 mm higher than the Noosa Kitchen. This additional height allows the Hybrid to retain the popular Tommy Pantry Tubs on the top shelf.
You still cook outside. You still live outside. But when the weather turns, or you simply want easier access to your gear, it’s all within reach.
That’s exactly why the Hybrid has become our most popular kitchen layout.
And if you’re looking for even more comfort, the Hybrid can also be paired with an optional internal jump seat. This sits opposite the existing Tommy Campers couch, creating a practical dining and social space where you can enjoy meals, play cards, work remotely, or simply sit facing each other while planning the day’s adventure.
The Hybrid Kitchen also retains compatibility with the Travel Buddy Oven while adding internal access to key storage areas. For many travellers, this creates the perfect balance between convenience and outdoor living.
How Much Food Do You Carry?
This might sound like a simple question, but it often plays a big role in designing your ideal kitchen setup.
Are you heading away for a weekend? A week exploring the Victorian High Country? Or are you planning a month-long trip through the Kimberley?
The amount of food and drinks you carry will usually determine which fridge size makes the most sense for your travels.
At Tommy Campers, we offer upright fridge options ranging from compact 65L units all the way through to large 130L models.
For some travellers, a smaller fridge is all they need.
Others want enough capacity to stay off-grid for weeks without constantly searching for the next supermarket.
There isn’t a right or wrong answer. The best fridge size is simply the one that suits the way you travel.
More Fridge Space Or More Bench Space?
Not everyone wants the biggest fridge possible.
In fact, some travellers would rather have more preparation space around camp.
If you’re running a 65L upright fridge, you can opt for the Bush & Bay Slide-Out Bar.
Instead of using the extra space for a larger fridge, the Slide-Out Bar creates additional storage and a practical work surface with a built-in chopping board that can be used for preparing meals, storing cooking gear, or simply keeping everyday items within easy reach.
It’s a popular option for travellers who enjoy cooking outside and want more usable space around camp.
Do You Camp In All Seasons?
Picture this.
It’s 6 am. The temperature has dropped overnight. It’s raining outside…
Do you want to step straight into the weather to grab breakfast ingredients and make a coffee?
Or would you prefer some level of access to your food and essentials from inside the camper?
This is often where the biggest differences between our kitchen layouts become obvious.
➜ The Regular Kitchen is perfect for travellers who love keeping everything outdoors.
➜ The Hybrid Kitchen adds convenient internal access to storage while maintaining an outdoor cooking lifestyle.
➜ The Noosa Kitchen goes a step further, creating a dedicated internal workspace for appliances, food preparation, and everyday living.
None of them is better. They’re simply designed for different styles of travel.
So, Which Tommy Campers Kitchen Is Right For You?
If you love traditional camping and spend most of your time outdoors, the Regular Kitchen could be all you need.
If you want the best balance between outdoor living and indoor convenience, the Hybrid Kitchen is often the perfect solution.
And if you travel with appliances, enjoy additional internal workspace, or regularly camp in changing weather conditions, the Noosa Kitchen might be the better fit.
At the end of the day, there is no “best” Tommy Campers Kitchen.
There’s only the kitchen that best suits the way you travel.
And that’s exactly why we offer all three.
