Ranger Super Duty Camper | Tommy Campers S6X
Could the new Ford Ranger Super Duty be one of the best utes for carrying a slide-on camper?
With a 4,500kg GVM, heavy-duty chassis and suspension, 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel and full-time 4WD straight from the factory, the Ranger Super Duty gives us a very capable platform to start with.
For this Super Build, we’ve paired the Ranger Super Duty Super Cab with a Custom Tommy Tray and our Tommy Campers S6X, creating a complete touring setup designed to carry the weight while still being capable when the bitumen ends.
And rather than just building it and parking it in the showroom, we took it camping to see how the complete setup performs in the real world, and we even took the whole setup to a weighing bridge ๐

Vehicle Build Highlights

Insured by Club4X4
Club4X4 knows how much effort (and investment) goes into a 4WD build. That’s why they cover modifications, like your Tommy Camper, as a separate agreed value to the base vehicle, including the labour costs to have the modifications installed.
Custom Heavy Duty Tray for a Ranger Super Duty
Our Tommy Tray was designed specifically designed for heavy-duty use, while providing plenty of external storage for touring and camping gear.
Tray Specifications
- 2100mm length
- 2000mm width
- 100mm RHS construction
- Fuel Filler integrated in the headboard
- Raptor lined in black
Tray Accessories

Ranger Super Duty Camper – Tommy Campers S6X
Sitting on the custom tray is our Tommy Campers S6X slide-on camper, custom powder coated in Protex Black + Command Grey doors.
The S6X has a starting weight of approximately 326kg and is designed for people who want more living space and storage without moving into a caravan or still being able to tow a boat.
For this Ranger Super Duty Camper build, we’ve added a number of options to create a comfortable off-grid touring setup.

- 5-inch foam queen-size mattress

External Accessories
Hybrid Kitchen
The Hybrid Kitchen combines outdoor cooking with the convenience of internal access. Built around the same foundations as every Tommy kitchen, four modular shelves, TC pantry tubs, a drop-down bench, and a slide-out sink. It adds practical access doors from inside the camper to selected storage areas
Interior Comfort
Inside the S6X, we’ve introduced a few new touches designed to make the camper feel even more comfortable. The couch and ceiling feature new soft-touch fabric with custom stitching, while the upgraded interior lighting offers three different colour settings. Bright light when you’re cooking or packing, and warmer lighting when it’s time to relax.
Power
Off-Grid Power System (Enerdrive by Dometic)
One of the standout features of this Ranger Super Duty camper build is its Enerdrive power system.
At its heart is Enerdrive’s new 460Ah lithium battery, combined with a 3,000W inverter and 480W of solar across two 240W roof-mounted panels.
The system provides enough power to comfortably run higher-demand appliances. This means the camper can be set up for extended off-grid travel without relying on a generator or gas for everyday cooking.

That’s what makes it such an interesting platform for a Tommy Camper.
Ranger Super Duty Touring Upgrades
We’ve still added a few upgrades to make this Ranger better suited to the way we use it.
At the front is an Opposite Lock bull bar, paired with Driving Lights โ Lazer Sentinel 9” Elite driving lights and a GME Radio – XRS-375C4 XRSโข Connect 4WD Pack for communications. Black Duck Front & Rear Seat Covers.
A Front Runner roof rack adds additional carrying space above the Super Cab, while the factory wheels have been replaced with 18-inch KMC Wheels: KMC552 18×9 with +18 offset and Yokohama Geolander X-AT – 35×12.50R18 LT (Light Truck Tyres)

Opposite Lock bull bar
“The Opposite Lock bull bar to suit Ford Ranger Super Duty 2026 delivers premium protection. Designed to integrate seamlessly with all tech pack features, it offers a low winch mount for optimal recovery and rated recovery points. Finished with durable e-coating and powder coating for maximum corrosion resistance, this bull bar is built to meet high safety and performance standards.“
JMACX Ranger Super Duty Suspension
While the Ranger Super Duty is built to carry serious weight, we noticed that with the constant weight of the Tommy Camper on the back, the factory rear suspension was sitting a little lower than we wanted.
That’s where the JMACX Coil Over Leaf Conversion Kit comes in.
Designed specifically for the Ranger Super Duty, the kit works with the factory leaf suspension to better support constant rear loads โ making it a great solution for a setup like this where the camper stays on the vehicle.
For us, it helps the Ranger carry the weight better, sit more level and look better overall, without needing to completely replace the factory suspension setup.
We think it’s a very worthwhile upgrade for anyone planning to carry a Tommy Camper full-time on the Ranger Super Duty.

Ranger Super Duty Camper Walkthrough
Is the Ranger Super Duty a Good Ute for a Slide-On Camper?
For anyone researching a Ford Ranger Super Duty, the factory specifications make a strong case.
The 4,500kg GVM gives you significantly more room to work with when adding a tray, slide-on camper, accessories, water, passengers and camping equipment.
Add the heavy-duty chassis, V6 diesel, full-time four-wheel drive, front and rear lockers and 130L fuel tank, and you’ve got a vehicle that’s already designed around carrying weight and travelling into remote areas.
For our build, pairing the Ranger Super Duty Super Cab with the Tommy Campers S6X and custom Tommy Tray has created a compact but seriously capable touring setup.
And after taking it camping, we think the Ranger Super Duty is going to become a very interesting option for people looking to build their next Tommy Camper setup.
